String Quartet Abel Quartet's 10th Anniversary, First Official Recording <In nomine Domini> Release!
Abel Quartet, which was founded in 2013 and is entering its 11th year, will release its first official album <In nomine Domini> on September 8th under the Sony Classical label, containing the meaning of the 10th anniversary of its formation as a string quartet. The choice of Abel Quartet, which was worried about the weight of the meaning of the first album release, is 'Joseph Haydn'. Abel Quartet named <In nomine Domini (in the name of the God)>, a phrase that Haydn always left at the beginning of his autograph score, reminiscent of all the 'beginnings' of Haydn's music, as the title, containing the meaning of the album release as another 'beginning' towards the next 10 years of the team.
The 2015 Haydn International Chamber Music Competition winning team selects the first album program 'Joseph Haydn', and Abel Quartet's important musical base, Vienna, on-site recording
In addition to the title of the winning team of the Haydn International Chamber Music Competition held in Vienna, Austria in 2015, 'Papa' Joseph Haydn has a special meaning for the team's identity because there are members who spent their childhood in Vienna and many members have experience studying chamber music in Vienna. 'Haydn in Vienna' has been highly praised as being 'strong in classical music, especially Haydn', which further raises expectations for the perfection of this album.
The album recording was conducted for 5 days in July at the Future Art Lab, the new recording hall of the Vienna National University of Music, with the full support of the members' alma mater, the Vienna National University of Music. Abel Quartet conducted this recording work in an environment technically optimized for recording, from state-of-the-art recording facilities and hall acoustics to temperature, humidity, and lighting. In particular, Johannes Meissl, Vice President of the Vienna National University of Music and Abel Quartet's teacher, and Tonmeister David Merö spared no musical help and advice, adding strength to the perfection of the album <In nomine Domini>.
A balanced program composition that deals with the representative works and hidden gems of Haydn's string quartets, the 'Father of String Quartets'
Abel Quartet's program composition also includes representative songs from the Haydn repertoire, as well as hidden gems worth highlighting, and this balance is also noteworthy. It consists of Op.74 No.1, one of the 'Apponyi String Quartets', and Op.33 No.1, one of the 'Russian Quartets', as well as 'Emperor' (Op.76 No.3) and 'The Lark' (Op.64 No.5), which are considered the most symbolic masterpieces in the Haydn string quartet repertoire. In particular, it is worth noting that the quartet's two violinists, Yoon Eun-sol and Park Soo-hyun, alternately take on the first violin in a compatible manner according to the characteristics of each piece and their respective personalities. Abel Quartet's cellist Cho Hyung-jun said, "We celebrated our 10th anniversary this year, and with the album recording planned, we couldn't just pass by the composer 'Joseph Haydn', who is the beginning of the string quartet and the 'path' of all composers who composed string quartets." He expressed his expectations for the meaning of the album release and the release commemorative recital. Abel Quartet's album, which contains the authenticity of Haydn, the 'PaPa' of string quartets who presented the path to string quartet composition, will be released on September 8th under the Sony Classical label.
