Album Introduction
J BEL, Second Solo Concert [Aesthetics, Resistance, Love]
The sounds of J BEL's second solo concert, held at the Hongdae KT&G Sangsangmadang Live Hall on February 7, 2015, are revealed to the public through this live album. Like his previous albums, J BEL tries to communicate with the world through music in this album as well.
Having started his first Hongdae club performance in 2001, he has been walking the path of a musician for 15 years. Through the performance, he presented his own 'music' to the public with the profound themes of "Aesthetics, Resistance, Love," three joys of his 20s that were filled with wounds. It would not have been easy without the help of the six session members who came together for the solo concert.
Out of a total of 16 performance songs, 10 songs are included in the album. Among these, 4 songs (1999 Love (Subtitle: Black Night Love (黑夜愛)), 040424, She Doesn't Love Me, Idealistic Real) were previously released, and the remaining 6 songs are revealed through this live album. Mixing and mastering were done at Tone Studio, and the album, not the sound source, is scheduled to be released next week.
If you listen to the included songs in detail, you will feel that the 10 songs are naturally arranged in order, illuminating J BEL's life brightly or darkly. Although gloom seems to be the main element of the atmosphere, you can feel softness and brightness as you listen, and you may be surprised by the unexpectedly rough and intense songs as you listen again. There is no very exciting or very bright atmosphere, but surprisingly, J BEL's 'optimistic' personality is revealed as it is in the overall songs.
This even applies to extremely dark and depressing songs. In fact, J BEL has had the experience of healing his own illness by creating and singing a song called 'Neurosis' about the neurosis that severely tormented him during his college days. I wonder if his wishes for his music to be a comfort to those who are mentally struggling will be fulfilled through this album. I imagine his father, who unfortunately passed away just before the album's release, smiling happily while listening to his son's music in heaven.
