Jeon Jin-hee [Breathing II]
Listening to this music, I feel like I'm sitting across from someone. Someone who prepared warm tea and was waiting for me. Someone with gentle eyes, who gently strokes my knee with a warm hand, saying it's okay, and encouraging me to speak. In front of such a person, tears well up before I can even open my mouth.
The tears that burst forth the moment the warm performance begins might not stop for the entire forty-plus minutes across fourteen tracks. But after such a cry, a sense of relief and healing, as if a hundred words have been poured out, will follow. This is because Jeon Jin-hee's "Breathing II" is 'music that listens to my story.'
Jeon Jin-hee is a gifted musician who can write thousands of books with the language of the piano, yet here, she never puts her own story first. She doesn't raise a flag and hastily lead the listener to a specific destination. While she is clearly the subject of the expression, it's fair to say that the content is more about drawing out the other person's story. Between the notes that resonate leisurely as they flow, one feels an attitude of respect – responding sparingly but listening completely. That's why we feel we are 'speaking' while 'listening' to this music.
Entrust yourself willingly to her careful and thoughtful touch. Deep, unspoken stories that were difficult to share might naturally emerge. And at the end, peace will surely be found.
