Unlike the 'Hip Hop Awards' or the 'Hip Hop Category' at music awards, Korean R&B and Soul have historically been combined into a single 'R&B & Soul Category'. However, seeing Korean R&B spread widely overseas under the name KRNB in recent years, one might wonder if it's time to separate R&B and Soul in Korea.

“What's the difference between R&B and Soul?”

Unlike R&B, which primarily uses romantic feelings as its subject, the Soul genre expresses 'life' itself. Therefore, it is much broader than R&B, and even shares common ground with Hip Hop or traditional Korean pop. This album, as a Soul genre work, contains stories of human life and a human touch. However, it is unique in that it represents 'the lives and tastes of people worldwide' as seen through the eyes and mouths of Koreans.

Hersh, a rising artist in the Korean Soul music scene, and JINBO, who has a stake across Korean Hip Hop, R&B, K-pop, and Soul genres, have come together to create this album under the name 'PoPoMo'. Reflecting a global era where the world listens to Korean music and Korea listens to diverse music from around the world, PoPoMo's music emanates a variety of Soul influences from the US, UK, Southeast Asia, and beyond. This is akin to how naturally we enjoy diverse cultures in places like Itaewon, Hongdae, Euljiro, and Seongsu. Although most of the lyrics are in English, immersing yourself in the music will allow you to fully enjoy the album's flavor.
