Kim Jonghyun spent a more intense 2023 than anyone else to show his personality in both acting and music as he took his first steps as a solo artist. And Kim Jonghyun, along with &U, who has been a reliable support, finished the end of 2023 at the fan concert <Sparkling Eternity>. In [Brilliant Seasons], which opens the beginning of 2024, Kim Jonghyun sincerely captured the feelings he felt during the past year and his future aspirations. Following the previous album [MERIDIEM], he actively participated in writing lyrics, composing, choreography, etc. in this [Brilliant Seasons] as well, confirming his all-rounder side.
Kim Jonghyun expresses life in terms of seasons in this album. Like the four seasons, life is not always sunny and warm. Even if storms and thunder and lightning strike, he wants to convey the message that 'everything eventually makes life brilliant,' just like finding a rainbow at the end.
The intro song <Tempus> contains the narration 'Every moment is my brilliant season, &U, &Me, Sparkle', which is a phrase related to the values that Kim Jonghyun considers important in life. It opens the prelude to the album by expressing that they met each other within the concept of time, and that time is each other's Brilliant seasons. Kim Jonghyun's values shown in the intro are expanded and shown in the title song <MOTTO>. It delivers a positive message to enjoy every moment of every day on top of a cheerful Jersey Club beat.
Starting with <New Season>, the mood of the album unfolds into a story of honest inner self. <New Season>, in which Kim Jonghyun participated in writing lyrics and composing, contains the message that he will be reborn as an independent self, not one who acts only according to the standards of others, and <Do Whatever You Want> conveys a message of support that I will firmly believe in you and me, who are such independent people, no matter what we do.
<I’m so dirty, How can I love you> is a song that expresses the appearance of a counterpart who shines so beautifully, unlike his dark self, and expresses a moment of complex emotions through heartbreaking lyrics that contrast with the bright Rock sound. The last track <Don’t Worry> is a song that was surprisingly released for '&U' at the first solo fan concert [Fantasia], and was included as the last track with gratitude for waiting for about a year.
