Pianist Yekwon Sunwoo
Second album on the Decca label
[Rachmaninoff, A Reflection] Release
Yekwon Sunwoo, the first Korean winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, releases his second studio album [Rachmaninoff, A Reflection] on the Decca label, 3 years after [Mozart].
This album consists of Rachmaninoff's repertoire, the composer who brought Yekwon Sunwoo the Van Cliburn victory and who is celebrating his 150th birthday. Through Rachmaninoff's works, which can be said to be Yekwon Sunwoo's signature, the spectrum of emotions inherent in the works, from longing, melancholy, and moments of joy, is projected into the most honest performance of 'Yekwon Sunwoo' himself.
This album, which aims to contain the most Rachmaninoff-like works, includes Rachmaninoff's only two sets of variations, 'Variations on a Theme by Corelli, Op. 42' and 'Variations on a Theme by Chopin, Op. 22', as well as the widely loved 'Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 19 - 3rd movement: Andante', Kreisler's 'Liebesleid' arranged by Rachmaninoff himself, and 'Prelude, Op. 3 No. 2', famous under the subtitle 'The Bells of Moscow', for a total of 6 works. It is an album where you can encounter Rachmaninoff's unique color, which is reflected even while quoting music from various composers.
