Currently the most watched wind instrumentalist in the world,
Flutist Yubeen Kim's first official album release
Yubeen Kim, who is writing a new history in the Korean wind instrument scene by achieving an unprecedented Grand Slam by winning the ARD International Music Competition Flute Category for the first time as a Korean, 2nd place without 1st place at the Geneva International Music Competition, and 1st place at the Prague Spring International Music Competition, will release her first official album 'Poeme' on August 9th under the Sony Classical label.
The essence of French music embodied by Yubeen Kim
Yubeen Kim, who has been invited as a guest principal flutist of the world's top orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, several times and is working as the principal flutist of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, representing the American West at the call of Esa-Pekka Salonen, chose the French repertoire, which is the heart of flute music, as her first official album repertoire.
Yubeen Kim, who went to France at the age of 16 and embodied French music in Paris and Lyon, said, "France and the flute are inseparable. French works left by masters from French Impressionism to modern and contemporary times especially depict the timbre of the flute more beautifully. As this is an important first album as a performer, I made all the album programs with French repertoire," revealing the intention of the album program composition. This album, titled 'Poeme', which contains the unique poetic sentiment of France, is filled with visual images such as myths, dreams, and colors for the listeners.
Yubeen Kim started with Saint-Saëns' 'Sonatine for Flute and Piano', a representative figure of French modern music, followed by Debussy's 'Syrinx for Flute Solo' and 'Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun' (L. 86), which contain the story of Greek mythology. In addition, Poulenc's 'Sonata for Flute and Piano' (FP. 164), Dutilleux's 'Sonatine for Flute and Piano', and Franck's 'Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major (Arranged version for Flute and Piano)' (FWV. 8) are performed on the flute, playing popular violin original works, and are gorgeously captured with the unique texture of wind instruments and Yubeen Kim's innate musicality.
The birth of the strongest duo,
Flutist Yubeen Kim and pianist Dohyun Kim
Pianist Dohyun Kim joins Yubeen Kim's first album in her music career as a special partner, befitting the weight and meaning of the album. Pianist Dohyun Kim, who has been recognized on the world stage for his in-depth musicality as well as a wide repertoire, winning 2nd place at the Ferruccio Busoni Competition and the Best Performance Award for Contemporary Works, added strength to the perfection of the album with his poetic pianism. It can be said that the meeting and explosive synergy effect of flutist Yubeen Kim and pianist Dohyun Kim is the birth of the 'strongest duo'. The recording was conducted with Tonmeister Jin Choi at the Bucheon Art Center last March, and the acoustic balance suitable for the warm timbre of wind instruments is further raising expectations for the album.
This album, which contains the culmination of flute music that Yubeen Kim, a new myth in the Korean classical music scene, has embodied and cultivated in France, will be released on August 9th through the Sony Classical label.
