The release of the 11th full-length album by Kwon Jin Won, one of Korea's leading female singer-songwriters.
<Kwon Jin Won with Rob Van Bavel> is an album concisely composed with just vocals and piano, with world-renowned Dutch jazz pianist Rob Van Bavel arranging and performing all of Kwon Jin Won's songs.
This album, recorded live in a studio in Amsterdam, features a total of 9 tracks. <I Think of You>, <Autumn Rain>, <Even That Place I Went To>, and <You Shine Within Me> are newly released songs. <April, When Flowers Bloom>, <Walking Side by Side>, and <It Will Be Spring> are songs that have been released one by one as singles since 2017. Also included are <Happy Birthday to You>, which Rob Van Bavel wanted to perform among Kwon Jin Won's previously released songs, and <Subway on the Blue River>, which Kwon Jin Won wanted to sing again with piano accompaniment.
The title track, <I Think of You>, is a song with very simple lyrics and a repeating melody. The warm male chorus is impressive. The melodies of the intro and outro contain the heart of composer Kwon Jin Won, comforting sadness as if patting one's shoulder.
Although this album is their first collaboration, the two musicians converse through music as naturally as if they had been performing together for a long time. Rob Van Bavel, whether rehearsing or recording, performed with the English-translated lyrics placed beside the sheet music, deeply feeling their meaning. They understood each other's music without complex arrangements in their performance expressions, and recorded live without interruption.
Vocals and piano. An arrangement that is as concise as possible, but it is enough. It is a new and beautiful encounter. Full of tremors and resonance, tears and smiles…
