[Voice Memo] is an album that records the emotions and moments that passed me by from 2018 to 2024 in my voice. It records the beginning and end of love, loneliness and longing, and songs that deeply look into my own inner self, following the flow of time. I hope you listen to the story by following the changing emotional lines of each track.
I hope that people will not just listen to music while listening to this album, but follow my time and emotions as if turning the pages of a diary. It may be empathy for some, and a new perspective for others, but I just put my emotions into the album.
1. It's okay (feat. ZICO)
The story of when we had the hardest love for each other. I knew I had to leave, but I kept staying, and in the end, we made each other miserable. I thought that person was so perfect, but we weren't right together. So I tell them to leave, that they'll be okay, but in reality, I'm not okay at all. It is a song about the complex emotions before breaking up.
The combination of hip-hop sound drums, piano, and guitar creates a lively and live feel.
2. Thinking of you
After a breakup, moments that suddenly come to mind even after time has passed. When a song we used to listen to together comes on, when a road we used to walk together feels unfamiliar, my head is full of thoughts of that moment. Moments that I thought would disappear over time torment me, and this song contains the hope that they will leave even my memory now.
I tried to express the somewhat intense emotions sound-wise, so I borrowed Grunge and garage rock sounds.
3. 1+1
Emotions where hatred disappears and only longing remains. I realize now. We're over, but you're still an indelible presence in my heart. In the end, the person who should have been by my side was you. Like a simple formula, just like 1+1 is always 2, we should have been together too.
The song is developed with familiar instruments to create a live performance for the listeners.
4. Illusion (Interlude)
I didn't want this album to be filled with just love stories. I wanted to capture the emotions that tormented me the most besides love. I don't want to feel anything in my dreams. Because I feel too many emotions in reality. A song containing my wish to be free, at least in my dreams. The nightmare I still have.
It is expressed with a heavy and cynical feel by using dreamy and somewhat heavy drums and bass.
5. Breakup Anniversary (feat. SOLE)
Two years have passed since the breakup. Now we have become people who commemorate the day we broke up. Emotions seem to fade as time goes by, but in fact, I still remember that time. The last featuring part in the song is like the voice of that person I hear in my dreams. I still haven't accepted the breakup, and I'm still reminiscing.
A modern and emotional track was created using the arpeggio of a lyrical acoustic guitar and contrasting compressed drums.
6. Echo
In this song, I didn't directly talk about the pain inside me. Rather, I wanted to express it with abstract lyrics and emotional sounds. Voices repeating inside me, echoes of emotions that don't disappear. This song contains not external noise, but the emotions that resonate within me.
Rock's distortion sound and electronic music's rough waveform sound were borrowed to create an unrefined rough sound.
7. Like the First Time (feat. Skinny Brown)
The feeling of being attracted to someone for the first time is expressed with the material of alcohol. Using the keyword 'Like the First Time', it contains the first emotion, excitement, and mistakes. Just like when you drink alcohol, you become more honest than usual, and words you hesitated to say flow out without you knowing, the beginning of love flows out like that by chance. Unlike my actual introverted personality, I wanted to express more bold emotions in this song.
The feeling of a 2000s hip-hop R&B sample was implemented by using guitars that have not been effected and actual 2000s vocal sample chops.
8. Promise me
A story that all lovers can relate to. "I will love you forever." It's a common saying, but it sounds different when you put your heart into it. The most precious promise that lovers can make to each other. "If you fall, I'll catch you." "I'll be by your side forever." The song contains words that anyone in love has said at least once. It's a sweet and slightly shy, but heartfelt love song.
The song was developed as simply as possible to match the lyrics.
9. OST (feat. CHANMINA)
This song is special. It captures the process of my love as it is. From dating to promising to be together for life, it's a song made by looking back on our story like a movie. It doesn't mean the commonly used "Original Sound Track", but "Our Sound Track".
The unique feeling of J pop was brought to life through the straight melody and chord progression of the intro, the upbeat in the chorus part, and the nostalgic and tempo-filled composition.
10. I don't wanna be your hero
I am grateful for the excessive attention and love, but unlike the image shown on the screen, there are times when I feel miserable in the mirror. The way people see me is a part I want to show, and sometimes it's the way they want me to be. But in the end, I'm just myself. It contains my inner thoughts that the image on the screen is not everything, and that even I don't know myself completely.
Pop sound was implemented in a Korean style along with rock sound.
This album is a bit special to me. They are pieces of my life, emotions at that time, and moments I want to remember. I hope that you can empathize with this album or that it can become someone's story.
