The four-member rock band Dabda, loved by live scene fans for their energetic live performances with subtle variations and melodies of youth dancing while crying, is releasing their new EP [Yonder] after two years. Dabda released their first full-length album [But, All The Shining Things Are] in 2020 after a year of preparation, but unfortunately, the pandemic swept the world, and most of their planned activities were canceled. Despite the great misfortune, they continued their best possible activities, and in 2021, they released the collaboration single [Jungle Gym] with Takashi Kashikura of Toe. [Jungle Gym] was selected for Pitchfork Media's "Pitchfork Select," and Disk Union in Japan also released the first album with [Jungle Gym] as a bonus track.
Dabda, who started working on new songs early last year, developed the songs by sketching ideas from jams to create songs that they found interesting and could boost their energy. A catalyst was needed to raise the band's energy, which had been dampened by the difficulties of activity during the pandemic. They tried writing songs that could be played coolly on big festival stages and actively adopted sounds and effects that they had not used before. These five newly created songs tell the story of our and our generation's longing and origin to overcome the difficult situation during the pandemic. "Nature Simulator" became the keyword that connects the stories of the EP. And "Yonder," which means beyond there, a place where we think nature exists, not here, became the title of the new album. The EP [Yonder], which took about a year to work on, reflects the changes that vary with the seasons. From a thrilling song to listen to while riding a bicycle on a summer night to a song that captures the silence of a quiet autumn morning, the flow of emotions according to the change of seasons is meticulously captured in math rock that does not count numbers. When you listen to the EP [Yonder], you will feel the attributes of nature contained in each song and feel comfort and liberation.
“We tried to capture the nature we long for and originate in the EP [Yonder]. The power of nature I felt during my trip to Thailand was an intense experience. And we were interested in the gap between the serviced nature of the resort where we are comforted and the actual wild nature. We tried to capture the air that changes according to the season in which the song was created. We hope that the various qualities of nature contained in each song will give listeners comfort and liberation. Track 1, "Bonfire," contains nature with the power of a hot fire. The intro track that I used to play during performances was the starting point for the idea. "Flower Tail" tells the story of sailing towards the horizon on a boat carrying flowers in a tropical sea. At the same time, this song is also about people leaving for somewhere. In southern Thailand, the bow of a long-tailed wooden boat is decorated with flowers of different shapes, which is said to be a prayer for the safety of fishermen going out to sea. Track 3, "Origin," contains the pitifulness of the weight of earnest prayers and wishes. Track 4, "Cloud City," contains the image of a city where overflowing love songs and noise are mixed together. The last track, "One, World, Wound," started with a melody made with humming. This song, which summarizes the context of the EP, contains comfort for each person's wounds. We who live with wounds can be another wound to someone. Everything we do has equal value, and the important thing is to get up and do something. I hope you listen to this song when you often feel that everything is meaningless and you don't want to do anything.”

Seunghyun Lee and Jiae Kim, who met in a university club in 2010, decided to form a band together and headed to Seoul. At the time, Dabda played an unidentified music that seemed to be somewhere between folk and post-rock. It was a time when the music style changed every time a member was replaced, and they could not find their own clear direction. Dabda, who started their activities with a new lineup in 2016, released their debut EP [Each Island] after Joseph Lee joined. In February 2018, they appeared on Naver Onstage and had a new opportunity, and they released the single [Expression of Dreams]. They also had the opportunity to participate in overseas festivals such as Liverpool Sound City (UK), Bangkok Music City (TH), and Playtime Festival (MN). After a year of preparation in 2020, they released their first full-length album [But, All The Shining Things Are], and after Keohyun Noh (Bass) joined, they released the collaboration single [Jungle Gym] with Takashi Kashikura of Toe in 2021. In the summer of 2023, they plan to continue their activities such as participating in domestic and overseas festivals and overseas tours with the release of the EP [Yonder].
