*Album Introduction:
Goonamguayeoridingstella's 5th full-length album has been released.
This is the psychedelic rock band Goonamguayeoridingstella or Goonam <GOONAM>, which has been based in Seoul, South Korea, and has been active for 19 years, mainly performing live at home and abroad, releasing their first full-length album in 4 years.
With the band formed as a trio of guitarist Jo Woong, bassist Lee Gi-hak, and drummer Yoo Joo-hyun, they recorded a one-take live performance with the technology of sound engineer Ryu Ho-geon at Live Club Channel 1969 in the neighborhood where they usually hang out, eat, practice, and perform. Original member and band master Jo Woong, 8-year veteran Yoo Joo-hyun, and 4-year veteran Lee Gi-hak pushed, pulled, embraced, and accepted each other through years of collaboration, maximizing the fun of playing based on this.
In addition to Goonam's desire to capture the freedom that music can provide and the colors of music that originate from human movements and breathing, percussion, keyboards, and chorus were added through the cooperation of friends who cried and laughed together at the club and the virtue of D.I.Y. The album artwork, music video production, and tour team, which will be carried out in parallel with album activities, all gathered strength from their respective friends for Stella's new race, leading to the album's release on November 30, 2023.
You can confirm through Goonam's 5th album that the "Hongdae music" that is gradually fading and the even more faded narrative of Korean psychedelic rock are actually still being written. The natural charm and ease created by an indie band will provide a time of nostalgia and relief to comrades living in the same era, and above all, the groove of the rhythm, melody, lyrics, and the entire process of putting the old Stella on the track that Goonam creates is still a valid method in this era. The title of this album, which will be romance and spark in your playlist, is '1969'.

Music Cue! [Appendix] Commentary Collection
Jo Woong: There is a challenge to how free music can be, how arbitrary it can be. Especially because it's a band's music, that challenge is even more valid. The development of technology has created music that is trapped in a frame, smooth, and flawless. But originally, there is no right or wrong. The pleasure of being wrong when it's right, the coolness of being right when it's wrong. There is a desire to create a living album that contains the movements and breathing of people as they are.
We recorded it in one day with a 'one-take' recording of the band playing together. As the old seniors say, that's how bands do it. We played 1 set of 9 songs 3 times in one day. We chose our favorite take from among them and composed 9 songs. Ryu Ho-geon of Recording Studio TARDIS, who is in charge of Goonam's performance engineering, recorded it. His technique was focused on making these songs come alive above all else. It was fun. Now I can't work if it's not fun. Because it loses meaning. Even more so than in the past. I thought that if it's this way, I'll be able to make albums for a long time to come.
Yoo Joo-hyun: I hope you feel the deep taste that has been brewed for a long time in this busy modern society...
Lee Gi-hak: A world where it's not easy to move. I want it to be a sound that you can see and feel in front of you, both now and in the future.
Lee Min-chae: An exercise in perseverance, Goonam’s 5th studio album "1969" is not only a testament to the group's longevity but also a reflection on a changing cultural landscape. Organic and warm in sound, the results may seem effortless to the listener, but the process behind it was anything but. Choosing collaboration over an individualistic approach, the album is the result of a collective effort put forth by a ragtag community of misfits. Goonam's 1969 album has a feeling of the joy of the people who made the album. Hooray for the last place class! Cooperation is an advanced skill!
Ryu Ho-geon: All tracks except vocals were recorded in one space - Channel 1969 - in one take. Vocals were also mostly recorded in one take, and we put a lot of effort into capturing the natural sound that can only be found in this particular space and one-take recording from the recording stage. It was difficult to create a rich sound that fills the space while maintaining naturalness with only very basic band set instruments, but we were able to create a satisfactory result through numerous trials and errors with the band members.
Lee Ji-hyang: Life doesn't go the way I thought it would, and problems keep arising. Those stories are fun enough to sing about.
Ahn Hong-in: “There's an old man with his collar up in a corner of a dingy bus terminal. He has a cigarette butt burning to a crisp and a bag of peanut bread in his hand.” It was a conversation I had with the members of Goonam at the rehearsal site where Goonam's new songs were being sketched. The beginning of this album was about creating the gaze of that man who was barely warming himself with peanut bread and cigarette butts, and the stories surrounding him. In the days when gatherings were prohibited, the minimum trio and the owner of the shuttered live club gathered and had the best fun that could be had with 5 people or less. 'Peanut Bread' gathered on Monday nights at a live club with shutters down in the back alleys of Yeonnam-dong. We gathered and gathered, and the infection spread and decreased, the breaking news was frustrating and surprising, and in the midst of a startlingly bright new world, it was the world of the black curtain... It's better to be a misfire than an off-target... The gaze of the peanut bread man and the sound of the trio against that background were slowly becoming Goonam'
