ILHO JANG - LANDSCAPE SOKCHO, BREATH!
■ Album Description
Landscape Sokcho, Breath!
The scenery and music of Sokcho over three years, recorded in musical language by film music composer Ilho Jang, who worked on films such as [The Outlaws], [Peninsula], [Burning], and [The King].
Music director Ilho Jang sought to express the scenery of Sokcho, gaining healing and peace from the landscape, and sometimes feeling awe while experiencing threat and anxiety from nature.
And he wanted to primarily convey his expression as a human being before being a musician.
The Landscape Sokcho series is a work produced based on the scenery of Sokcho from 2020-2023, and through music and sound work using cinematic techniques and breathing, it gives the listener the experience of becoming the main character and looking at a mysterious landscape in ordinary life.
Sound designer Moon Cheol-woo, who has worked on over 90 films including [The Handmaiden], [1987: When the Day Comes], and [The King], directly recorded the sounds of nature, mountains, fields, seas, and lakes in Sokcho, and enhanced the vividness and completeness of the work through mixing that blends with the music.
In [Landscape Sokcho, Breath!], the note 'A', which is the tuning note for an orchestra, is used as a meaning that penetrates the entire work and landscapes, signifying a common landscape that we share. By including the sounds of people climbing the beach and mountains, it expresses the emotions shared by humans and nature, and humans in nature, as if they are actually alive and breathing, rather than a formalized background music of the landscape, like a scene from a movie.
The bonus track [Landscape Sokcho 2020] was first produced as an album to express the burnt nature due to the fire that occurred in Sokcho Goseong, Gangwon-do in 2019, the resulting helplessness, and the preciousness of lost things. It expresses the preciousness and beauty of nature that Ilho Jang felt in Sokcho, where he spent his childhood.
This album was completed with videos of the sea, mountains, and lakes being produced first, and then Ilho Jang improvising with the audience at a live concert while watching the videos. You will be able to feel the healing power of nature and the beauty of Sokcho with the vivid sounds of the scene.
A word of thanks.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the friends, seniors, and juniors who welcomed me without question when I suddenly came down to my hometown where I spent my childhood after 15 years of being away, and to the many people who visited the exhibition. I would like to convey my gratitude and apologies that I should have visited each of you in person with this work instead.
