Traces of cherished memories that do not fade with time
'IU' Third Remake Album [Flower Bookmark Three]
1. Red Sneakers
Original song: Park Hye-kyung / Lyrics: Park Hye-kyung / Composition: Park Hye-kyung, Lee Jae-hak / Arrangement: Lee Jin-ah
I thought Park Hye-kyung's voice was like magic powder that makes you feel sparkling, and I listened to it a lot when I was young.
When I listen to this song, I want to retie my shoelaces and run until I'm out of breath. A pleasant motivation that I don't know where it comes from springs up like the bubbles of champagne that have just been uncorked. I placed it on the 1st track with the hope that many people would welcome this spring with this feeling.
Lee Jin-ah added her unique freshness and playfulness.
2. Never Ending Story
Original song: Boohwal / Lyrics, Composition: Kim Tae-won / Arrangement: Seo Dong-hwan
There are masterpieces that have become so familiar to our memories that we no longer bother to savor the melody and lyrics. I think 'Never Ending Story' is a prime example. It's amazing that this melody and these lyrics, which are breathtakingly good even when enjoyed separately, are even contained in one song. It was unfamiliar but ecstatic every time I listened to it, and I coughed every time I sang it.
Based on the piano and string arrangement, which is Seo Dong-hwan's specialty, I tried to reinterpret it as a memory closer to a dream.
3. October 4th
Original song: Seo Taiji / Lyrics, Composition: Seo Taiji / Arrangement: Cloud
I wanted to capture the beautiful sensibility unique to that era, which is felt from the title '1004', in [Flower Bookmark Three]. I interpreted 'that girl' in the lyrics of the intro as me in the distant past, who is now like a stranger, and sang it thinking that it was a story that I am now telling to me in the past. In the lyrics of the chorus, I added ambiguity by pronouncing the section 'because you are not by my side' somewhere between 'my' and 'you'.
I wanted to fully express the lyricism of the original song while creating a mystical sense of space in the intro with a piano pattern that sparkles and flows like the reflection of light on the waves, and using some effects on the vocals to create an unrealistic sense of space.
It is a track where Cloud's dazzling imagination shines, such as the synergy of instruments and the use of unique chorus.
4. Last Scene (Feat. Wonstein)
Original song: Roller Coaster / Lyrics, Composition: Jo Won-sun / Arrangement: SUMIN, Slom, Koo Young-jun
If I were to personify the 'style' of 'stylish' in today's expression, I think it would be the appearance of Roller Coaster seniors. I tried to express the 'seemingly indifferent simplicity' which is one of the virtues of Roller Coaster's music. Unlike the original song, I thought it would be fun to have a new voice appear in the second verse, so after much deliberation, I asked Wonstein, who is famous for his dreamy tone, to feature.
I think Sumin and Slom's 'neat hipness' is exquisitely melted in. I am deeply grateful to Lee Sang-soon, who gladly joined us with a new performance.
5. Beauty (Feat. Balming Tiger)
Original song: Shin Joong-hyun and the Yupjuns / Lyrics, Composition: Shin Joong-hyun, sogumm / Arrangement: Balming Tiger (Unsinkable, Leesuho, bj wnjn, San Yawn)
“You, you are a beauty resembling a May violet
I will not be ashamed to fly high in the sky.”
The dictionary defines beauty as 'a beautiful person. Mainly a beautiful woman with a beautiful face or body', but I think that more and more diverse standards of beauty are changing society as time goes by. I started with the thought that 'if we don't define the gender and appearance of a beauty in this era, wouldn't it be closer to its true meaning?'
When I looked in the mirror and thought, 'I like my appearance today?', the people who were preparing the music with me responded to the idea of interpreting it as a story about self-love, looking at their own appearance once, twice, and constantly looking at it again.
It seems that a very interesting version of Beauty was born with the meeting of Shin Joong-hyun, the one and only artist of that era, and Balming Tiger, the most influential hipsters of the present era.
6. Dream of a Square
Original song: White / Lyrics, Composition: Yoo Young-seok / Arrangement: Je Hwi, flexindoor
I think it is a song that has as much symbolism for adults of a certain era as the current 'Baby Shark'. When I was young, I thought it was just a cheerful and fun song, but now that I'm an adult, the lyrics sound sadly new. I found the direction of the arrangement from the idea of 'What if we square all the sounds except the vocals?'
Composer Kim Je-hwi and Moon Ji-hyuk, who are as good at games as they are at music, showed off their skills by projecting their lives.
