KIK DEBUT EP [KIK]
In a world where everything quickly evaporates,
Hey, enjoy
- KIK
EP [KIK] reminds us of the recklessness of youth we've forgotten, the weight of emotions, and the feeling of ‘enjoying’ amidst it all.
The approach they chose for their debut is surprisingly simple.
They shed everything and just dive in.
Jung Wooseok of PENTAGON, who has continued his journey under undefined entertainment since creating a sensation with 'Shine (빛나리),'
Jung Minhyuk, who has built deep and delicate sounds as the guitarist of Lacuna (라쿠나),
and Oh Myungseok, the drummer of SURL, who has engaged in global activities including a US tour.
K-POP and indie, idols and bands.
The coming together of these three, who have walked diverse paths, proves just how unpredictable this combination is.
But what's even more intriguing is that their first sound is closer to a 'natural explosion' than a 'forced fusion.'
The first track, ‘Captain’s order,’ embodies the desperate imagery of holding onto emotions and suffering, despite acknowledging the need to let go, all set against a raw rock sound.
It’s KIK’s narrative, beginning with the impulse to break things even while knowing nothing will change, and standing firm even when broken.
The title track ‘SIMPLE’ is a paradoxical yet straightforward statement thrown into a world that is anything but simple.
Amidst an overflowing reality, too many judgments, and weary hearts, the phrase ‘let’s enjoy foolishly’ surprisingly sounds like the most accurate survival strategy.
‘Ferrari’ is a song like a brief sigh.
The moment when, even when burdened by the fatigue of reality, one suddenly sees the shadow of freedom passing by and wishes to be drawn into it.
The city is still harsh, but within it, there’s hidden room to breathe.
‘Timer’ is undoubtedly the sharpest track on this EP.
Panic like being cornered in a dead end, and endless running.
In a world where everything moves fast and no one waits, they don’t run away. Instead, they race to the end.
Listening to this song, one might feel breathless, yet also certain that light will be found somewhere at the end of this relentless pursuit.
And finally, the last track, ‘LP club.’
The place reached after pushing through the four tracks is surprisingly quiet and warm.
Not collapse, nor determination, nor childish comfort, but a single sincerity.
Some memories don’t fade even when they dim, and some words linger.
Perhaps this song will be one that watches over someone’s night.
More certainty than anxiety,
more breakthrough than hesitation.
Moving forward, the moniker ‘rookie’ will not remain attached to this team for long.
