Shin Jikseon's first EP <Connection>
Singer-songwriter Shin Jikseon announced the signal flare of his solo career by releasing the single [Dear God] on November 24, 2022. Immediately after its release, it was recognized for its potential by passing the EBS Space Empathy '2022 Hello Rookie' sound source screening. In March 2023, he further strengthened his delicate sensibility by releasing the single [Shower].
After that, Shin Jikseon returned with his first EP [Connection] in 6 months. [Connection] is an album that intensely and simply captures the desire to be 'connected' with everyone, not just himself, through music. [Connection], which includes a total of 6 songs, starts with the title 'Don't Leave Me Alone', continues the cheerful atmosphere with 'Speed', shows deep emotions through 'My Own Moon', and ends with his main genre, folk song, 'Shower'. It is recommended to listen to all the songs in order and explore Shin Jikseon's diverse musical world.
It is hoped that this album will be remembered as Shin Jikseon's own album, which he did not show during his 8 years of team activity. An album that he desperately wanted to share for 8 years. An album that makes you look forward to the next 8 years even more.
1. Don't Leave Me Alone
It is a song that makes you shrug your shoulders by adding an addictive bass riff to a minimal disco beat. The melody line using the pentatonic scale stands out, and in particular, the chorus 'Ullalalla Ullalalla' that follows after the hook makes the listener naturally sing along. The main title of the album.
2. Speed
It is a cheerful and fast-paced song with instruments constantly chiming in on a beat reminiscent of 'A-ha's' 'Take On Me'. At the time of composing, he bought a 15,000 won children's keyboard from an old stationery store as if possessed by something, and composed it in 10 minutes while playing with it alone. He was greatly inspired by his favorite artists 'Coldplay', 'The Weeknd', and 'A-ha'. The sub-title of the album.
3. My Own Moon
It is a song that sings about the relationship between the Earth and the Moon in comparison to love with a calm voice in a rock ballad band sound. The moon must be a very good muse that has inspired the Earth since humans began to be active. The lyrics give meaning to such a moon and compare the Earth's appearance of constantly launching rockets and sending love to unconditional pure love. The vast rising interlude is impressive.
4. Noon
It is a song characterized by a shuffle rhythm, a simple chord, and an addictive melody line that sings back and forth between true and false voices. The melody that keeps lingering in my head is about 'noon', but unexpectedly, it is a song made because 'Zendaya's' dog's name 'Noon' was so cute.
Love and the sun have in common that they continue to be noticed and make you blush. Especially when it is in the highest position to see everything about me.
5. Dear God
It is a song like an organic body in which instruments are cleverly combined on a delicate electric guitar riff. (As @metheny009 mentioned in the YouTube comments.) I put the anxiety of my late 20s, when I was seriously worried about what was wrong with me, in the form of a complaint to God. For reference, Shin Jikseon is surprisingly non-religious.
It was pre-released on November 24, 2022.
6. Shower
A piano melody that sounds like raindrops falling is laid on a warm folk guitar rhythm. After that, a synthesizer reminiscent of a shower in June leads the entire song, stimulating moist emotions.
It was made romantically, considering that it was written in resentment for buying an unwanted umbrella twice because of the shower.
It was pre-released on March 20, 2022.
