Things that change, and things that don't - things that ultimately don't change.
How old are Streetguns really? Their music, living in 2024, seems to resonate from the 1950s in the United States, with a vivid retro sound. Streetguns, who 'comb their hair back with pomade, iron their 50s western shirts, and wear blue suede creeper shoes' (from Streetguns' song, <ROCKABILLY TIME>), are full of cool old-school charm at a glance.
Streetguns, formed in 2013 after going through a rockabilly band that was their predecessor in 2001, is the band that first planted the genre of 'Rockabilly' in Korea. Furthermore, they are the planning entity of 'Retro Festival', which is filled with only the Old School Culture (vinyl LP, old school car, old school tattoo, barber culture) that makes up 'Rockabilly'. And, even in the [Hard Rock Rising] worldwide band competition hosted in the rockabilly homeland of the United States, they are the first Asian band to achieve the feat of becoming a global winner (final winner) with 'Korean-style rockabilly', beating out Western bands.
Streetguns, whose musical journey itself is the 'rockabilly' genre. The band Streetguns, who have been asked countless times, "What is rockabilly?", has released a refreshing 'rockabilly manual' to listeners through music. Streetguns' EP [Rockabilly Time] in 2024 contains the rockabilly daily lives of the five members (Tiger, Roy, Cheolsu, Gyugyu, Inseon) who have been running under the name of 'Streetguns'.
"If you ask me what rockabilly is, I'm too lazy to explain it at length.
I've been saying it's like Elvis for over a decade.
So I prepared it as a song, it's rockabilly time" - From Streetguns' song, <ROCKABILLY TIME>...
The most eye-catching thing in Streetguns' instrument configuration is the large upright bass. The lyrics that say 'Don't keep asking if it's a cello' while looking at the upright bass, which is the identity instrument of rockabilly, is genuine experience humor drawn from rockabilly life. In particular, the lyrics 'If you want the sound of Guitar on Fire, use this instrument' contain an episode of laughter from MBC's music program <Asian Top Band>. When judge Yoon Sang admired, "How do you bring out the original texture, color, and rhythm of rockabilly like this?", Streetguns guitarist Gyugyu shyly replied, "It's easy if you use this instrument (Gretsch guitar)," and the studio burst into laughter.
Streetguns' new EP [Rockabilly Time] is also a collection of works that captures the ego of each member. The 1st track <ROCKABILLY TIME> and the 5th track <I Didn't Even Know That Was The Last Time> are written and composed by leader Tiger as before, but this EP contains the air and moments created by each member.
The 2nd track <BATTLE YOURSELF> is written and composed by bassist Roy, the 3rd track <Time Passes> is by guitarist Gyugyu, and the 4th track <Good Youth> is by vocalist Cheolsu. If the title song <Rockabilly Time> defined the original of rockabilly, each of the included songs mixes various musical attempts based on rockabilly, and tells the story of each member who has created the rockabilly genre for a long time. These individual narratives come together to naturally condense the band Streetguns.
Streetguns, who are still launching Korean rockabilly in 2024. The name of this EP, which carefully boils down their rockabilly daily lives, is therefore [Rockabilly Time]. Instead of the spelling 'rockabilly' that follows the spelling rules, the EP name and title song name were decided as they are, using the spelling 'rockabilly' that the members have been using in their daily lives for a long time.
The rockabilly band Streetguns, which dyes the world with the charm of 'unchanging' old school, and its five members. The new songs of the 'changed' Streetguns, which were created in a different way than before, which exudes the colors of each member, once again awaken the charm of rockabilly that 'ultimately does not change'. In 2024 and beyond. Streetguns, who are creating moments of Korean rockabilly. Let's enjoy the pleasant rockabilly manual they hand over.
