TODA <May>
The album May, as the title suggests, is about Gwangju in 1980. He made a song for a music drama based on a print by artist Hong Seong-dam and included it in this album.
Art has meaning in itself, but it also clearly functions as a medium for recording history. In that sense, composing and performing music based on a print that vividly records the 5.18 incident will be a timely task.
Toda's music is created by blending Korean traditional music, classical music, and band music. The grammar also aims for a higher level of music based on classical music and possessing Korean sensibility. Therefore, there is a uniqueness and originality that cannot be found anywhere else. Through this music, there is potential to lead the music of Korea in the future.
