Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson returns with a new album two years after the worldwide success of his album.
Ólafsson said that through his
album, he was inspired by the influence of Bach's counterpoint on Beethoven's late sonatas. For this album, he places Beethoven's late piano masterpiece at its core, using it as a central axis to explore a musical and historical lineage, surveying various surrounding works.
This album consists of works in E major and E minor by Bach, Beethoven, and Schubert. Ólafsson, a synesthetic pianist who perceives sound as color, stated, "I perceive the note E as green, and therefore E major and E minor evoke different shades of green for me, from dark and lush to bright and vibrant."
His previous albums have received worldwide acclaim, including a Grammy Award, Musical America Artist of the Year Award, Opus Klassik, and the German Record Critics' Award.
